An eccentric Belgian inventor travels to Quebec to search for his family.
This is the story of Michel, an eccentric Belgian inventor whose ideas aren’t understood by his employers. After pitching his ideas to numerous potential investors who show little interest, he slowly loses heart. In the midst of this Michel learns that he was adopted as a child, and that he was born in a barn out in Quebec. While there pitching an automatic lawn mower, he decides to investigate his past.
Finding that everyone in his native village has the same surname Michel realises he’s on a lost cause. He decides to leave and hitches a ride back in what can only be described as an anachronistic hybrid car. On their way to Montreal they crash into an emu as it crosses the road. The accident changes Michel’s life forever (as well as that of the hitchhiker and that of the automotive industry).
Writer/Director Philippe Falardeau does a great job of keeping the characters very real and yet very likable. Holding up as a very charming film, this quirky little comedy has a good balance between its subtle doses of humour and emotion. A must see.
