In 2007 23-year-old Tom binned his map and set off on the ultimate quest for freedom and self-actualisation of which many of us fantasise: riding off into the sunset without any commitments or obligations to weigh us down.

For the next 12,000 miles Tom cycled, camped and filmed himself – the results of which form this fascinating, honest self-documentary. But, as in any story, things don't always go to plan. Enter Tenny, an Iranian-Armenian woman who Tom encounters on his travels and immediately falls in love with. Having bought her a bike he persuades  Tenny to join his journey and they travel to Iran together with the intention of gaining her parents' approval of their relationship.

Janapar (meaning “journey” in Armenian) is a remarkable accomplishment. The love for the project, the intricacy and the time that must have gone into the editing process is overwhelming. The non-linear narrative complements the nature of the story and adds cinematic appeal to Tom's ambitious return trip. Towards the beginning of the film, Tom states his belief that everyone should throw caution to the wind and live their dream. Here he has lived his own, and documented it in a way that will only inspire others.
