Every once in a while, there comes along a film so heart-warmingly beautiful that you just don’t want the credits to roll. Good Night, Missy, a Slovenian/Croatian feature written and directed by Metod Pevec, is just such a film.

Hana is an interior designer living with her architect husband Samo and daughter Anja – the definitive successful middle-class family for whom everything seems to be going ‘to plan.’ Her world begins to fall apart, however, when she discovers her husband’s affair and her normal calm, collected sense of self succumbs to emotional turmoil.  She strives to achieve some kind of happiness while trying to protect her daughter from the messy, confusing process of divorce.

Metod Pevec writes an extraordinarily touching film of heartbreak, keeping brave and the little things that bring a smile to your face. Punctuated by a beautifully evocative soundtrack, interesting cinematography and some intriguingly poignant clips of animation to compliment Anja’s bed-time stories, it is a masterpiece of character work and storytelling. The amazingly beautiful and talented Polona Juh gives an exceptional performance as Hana, backed-up by two more great performances from Jernej Sugman as Samo and Mila Furst as Anja, who all together create the most completely believable and utterly devastating image of a family in the throes of disaster. Do not miss this.
