Short Synopsis:

A game of paintball turns deadly when three unhinged and deranged ex-soldiers play a twisted mind game of catch and release with their unsuspecting victims. This quickly leads to a bloody man hunt where everyone is a target, and no one is safe.

Review:

War GameWhen seven English friends go away to the woods to play paintball they knew they were letting themselves in for some war-games, they just didn’t realise how realistic they’d be. All is going swimmingly, relationships and tensions rising and falling as they should, until some of the group stumble upon a hut they shouldn’t have. When the three owners return they are less than happy to see their unsavoury secrets have been witnessed and determine not to let anyone escape.

Thus begins a deadly game of cat-and-mouse in the woods, as the deranged killers take on the seven paintballers. Certainly not an original premise, but always an effective one, this is a fun film to get drawn into. Director Cosimo Alema’s long background in music videos and commercials means he is a sure hand on the helm and he has certainly put together a shocking and exciting first feature with plenty of adrenaline pumping through it’s system.

Although there is blood-and-guts enough to satisfy the genre fans, this film steers away from the darker side of horror, always keeping half an eye on the psychological state of its unlucky victims. Almost entirely self-funded, this is an independent film that shows, once again,  just how easy it can be to put together a good film with a group of actors and a forest.
