Short Synopsis:

Former Backstreet Boys crooner Kevin Richardson makes his film acting debut in this melodrama set in 1969 about irresponsibility, selfishness and damaged people.

Casserole Club1960’s American Suburbia. A set of neighboring housewives, close-knit but competitive, organize a casserole cooking club where their dishes are to be judged by their husbands. The dinner party starts well, but after the casserole drink turns the competition to each other’s spouses. As the alcohol takes hold the evening slips somehow into an orgy. This snowballs into a routine event, revealing secrets of sexuality, infidelity, and characters’ conflict between their impulses and morality. This change in tone comes subtly as, one by one, tensions between the characters and insecurities in their home lives are uncovered, foreboding the fall of intimate barriers up held by their marital vows.

The Casserole Club really benefits from the authentic costume and set design to keep the look faithful to the time period, and a documentary, Camp Casserole, will also be shown at Raindance, giving a being-the-scenes insight into the work that went on to achieve its very stylized visuals.

Especially strong performances from Kevin Scott Richardson and Susan Taylor make real the deep themes of piece, as each character tries to fill their desolate lives with self-interested desires. But their irresponsibility and inconsideration end up leaving their lives with less than they had before.
