The acclaimed directional debut of Hatuey Viveros tells the story of Aina, a girl from Spain who arrives in Mexico City in search of her father. However, the only reference she holds is an old childhood picture with a note at the back saying ‘Our house at 37 Juarez Street’. As Aina comes to realise, every district in that vast city has its own Juarez street. Determined to succeed, Aina explores every road bearing that name, immersing herself in one of the biggest and most crowded cities in the world.

My Universe in Lower Case is a film about the ‘search,’ a trend in contemporary Mexican cinema eager to explore the past in order to understand the present. It portrays the curiosity of a young generation with a lack of memory and shows also how that curiosity can be an important feature in anyone's life: Aina's search becomes about the process, not just the result.

Following Aina's footsteps, we explore along with her the different micro-universes integrated inside the big Mexican capital. Through the people she meets we come to understand something of the city, and all its different districts. My Universe in Lower Case is a homage to Mexico City and all the marvellous characters contained within.
