Anatomy of Reel: The Underwater Realm

About the project:
Thousands of years ago, the world’s most advanced civilisation sank beneath the waves, its people forever doomed to wander the ocean floor. The Underwater Realm is the story of the five times those on the surface have caught a glimpse below: freediving off the coast of modern Hawaii, a downed pilot at the height of World War II, amidst the smoke and fire of the Spanish Armada, a suicidal girl in medieval England, and finally, at the height of Roman Power in 149 BC.

About the session:
Go behind the scenes at The Underwater Realm, arguably the most ambitious independent film project ever attempted. Discover how the fully volunteer team learned to dive, light and film underwater; to recreate five different time periods, building their own full scale Spitfire and Spanish Galleon; worked with Executive Producers Raindance to raise $100,000 from over a thousand fans worldwide. Finally, catch a world premiere of the first of the films, and sneak peek at what else is to come.

About us:
Realm Pictures was founded in 2005 by Director David M Reynolds, Director of Photography Eve Hazelton, and Production Designer Shahriah Abdullah. Realm was founded on the belief that that independent film should not have to compromise itself in terms of ambition or scale. Realm’s first feature film Zomblies, a £10,000 action b-movie, won Best Science Fiction / Fantasy at the 2011 London Independent Film Festival, and recently passed three million views on YouTube. In 2011, Realm took first place in the Raindance / Pepsi ‘Max it’ competition with its short about the joys
