Short Synopsis:

Angel Express - Director's Cut is a film about people restlessly seeking the ultimate expetience. Set i late nineties Berlin, it shows images of radical change.

13 years ago RP Kahl released his first feature film, entitled Angel Express. Now the powerful drama returns with a vengeance: shorter, less complicated and equally intriguing. This is the Angel Express – The Director’s Cut.

Angel Express As a character-driven film, there is no real storyline to it: we follow five or six young Germans as they struggle through life in 90’s Germany. The Berlin Wall has fallen and a new wave of Western influence is sweeping across Germany. Young people feel lost and bored, resorting to thumping techno club nights laced with drugs, violence and sex to achieve that ultimate high. It seems as if they all perch on the precipice of death – perhaps the decisive ‘kick’ for them – and nothing does a better job at filling them with life than a poignant symbol of death: a gun.

So is there a reason for RP Kahl to release the re-cut now, 13 years later? Perhaps parallels can be drawn between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the ennui that seemed to affect young people then, and the recent recession and bleak future prospects of today’s younger generation. Whatever the reasons, Angel Express remains a powerful and thought-provoking film.
