Short Synopsis:

A group of Australians from diverse backgrounds gather to decide the fate of a violent young man. An Australian '12 Angry Men', only there's 10, including 4 women.

Face To Face Based on case notes from real out-of-court conflict resolution sessions, Face to Face tells the story of the politics and deep-rooted problems of an Australian scaffolding company. Wayne is a short-tempered and simple young man who is ‘on trial’ for assaulting his boss. However this isn’t an ordinary trial. To avoid being sent to jail Wayne has been given a chance to atone for his mistake by sitting down and discussing the incident with all those who were involved, including his mother, his colleagues, his boss and his best friend.

What starts off being all about Wayne soon snowballs and we realise that everyone in the room is either responsible in some way or has some contribution to the bigger picture. We find out that Wayne was goaded into the action by a cruel, childish prank played by his co-workers, but the story doesn’t end there, as everyone including the company CEO, has dirty laundry to be aired.

Based on a play of the same name, this is a truly fascinating film. Cleverly starting from a single incident, and working backwards, there are various twists and well timed reveals which led to a web of intrigue, manipulation and betrayal.  The plotting is matched by the execution, with dialogue and acting that is so naturalistic at times it feels like a documentary. Face to Face is a unique piece of work which makes for genuinely compelling viewing.
