Short Synopsis:

A sizzling thriller about chance, excape and the oldest profession as two beautiful women experience one ugly night that will change their lives together.

XThis slick and gritty Australian thriller evokes the work of Gaspar Noe and the more extreme elements of contemporary European cinema. Explicit and intense, it tells the story of young and vulnerable runaway Shay, discovering the harsh realities of walking the streets, and Holly, a mature and jaded high class escort with her eyes on retirement and her heart set on escape.

They represent opposing ends of the vice spectrum: Shay struggling through her first night on the job, Holly hoping it will be her last. Their paths cross by chance, and they find themselves in a desperate, hopeless situation simply through being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Realising things aren’t as they seem and there are few people they can trust, the women eventually form a bond and find, in each other, something to fight for.

Elegantly shot with a crisp and vivid colour palette, the film is at once beautiful and bleak, depicting a street-level vision of Sydney bathed in garish neon. The razor sharp script broaches issues of gender and sexual politics in the misogynistic world of strip-clubs, curb crawlers and crooked cops, and addresses the human cost of the sex industry and the lifestyle these women have been forced into. X is brutal and powerful, all the way to its bittersweet, heart-wrenching finale.
