Short Synopsis:

A collection of explicit short films about sex and feminist approaches to sex.

Dirty Diaries is a collection of thirteen short pornographic films, produced by Mia Engberg and shot by a number of feminist directors. Each one tells a story or presents the act of sex through different modalities (even animation) and different points of view. Often shot on mobile phone cameras these films explore diverse ideas about the role of feminist sexual acts. All of them are intended to contrast the assumption that pornography is made by men, for men, and therefore has to satisfy male viewers. Dirty Diaries is an assertion that women in pornography need not be exploited and are just as capable as men of expressing their own sexuality and their own pleasure.

Sold out screenings in Stockholm have proved the success of this project although unsurprisingly, Dirty Diaries has attracted controversy; both because of its often extreme sexual content and because it was financed with public funds. Beyond the shock factor however, is a collection of films which take a serious look at the role of women in pornography and attempt to redress the balance. Dirty Diaries is thematically overseen by Engberg, but each film is an individual’s celebration of sex and an individual idea about feminine sexuality. This rich diversity proves that reclaiming feminine sexuality on film is as much about celebrating individuality as it is about celebrating femininity.
