WADD: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JOHN HOLMES

SATURDAY 25 OCTOBER AT MIDNIGHT UGC SHAFTESBURY AVE SCREEN 2

Country USA Running Time 105 mins Format Beta Director/Producer Cass Paley DoP Willie Boudevin Featuring John Holmes, Bill Amerson, Bob Chinn, Misty Dawn, Larry Flynt, Al Goldstein, Sharon Mitchell, Ron Jeremy Print Source ILC E ilcdvd@aol.com

Cocksman extraordinaire, the biggest man in porn for nearly two decades, John Holmes came from nothing to be the superstar of hardcore. Cass Paley's film details the the rise and fall, of an oddly talented man who hid everything from everybody - producers, his agent, even his wives. Amongst clips from some of the over 2000 movies his 13 inches featured in, the interviews with those around him, his first wife Sharon, agent (Amerson) and producers (Vosse, Hollander and Goldstein) drive this doc.

PT Anderson, whose Boogie Nights was homage to the hardcore era that started in '69, points out that Holmes' life was a clich». His childhood, his succumbing to drugs and drink as success hit, snitching to the cops, pimping out his 15- year-old lover for money, spiral into crime and involvement in murder and finally getting HIV.

Holmes was a talented actor in the porn world - his role as PI Johnny Wadd is oddly well done - but since he was constantly performing, indulging in colossal lies about his life to the press, it's not surprising. Wadd details the life of a legend who died isolated but who is mourned by his industry and friends. As Al Goldstein says 'he came, he came, he came, and then he went.' NS

Director of hit series Guns of the Civil War, Cass Paley was in LA during Holmes' trial. Having briefly met Holmes in the mid-'70s, and after seeing Boogie Nights, Paley determined to speak with Holmes' manager, contact with whom opened the door to many of these exclusive interviews.
