Sara, a beautiful woman with a seemingly perfect life, is shocked when a giant
Harley-riding biker comes to her 3rd grade class for a show-and-tell on the
art of tattooing. The disruption caused as the students begin to tattoo themselves
with coloured markers starts a whirlwind reaction that jars Sara out of her
well-ordered and apparently happy existence. This film is a masterful examination
of a sheltered woman who begins to let down her guard and learns to live a little.
The apparent contrast between the conservative and selfcontrolled young schoolteacher
and the atypical romantic hero in the guise of an intimidating tattooed biker
is soon shown to be nothing more than a result of social prejudices. It is much
to the film's credit that the relationship that forms between this unlikeliest
of couples is portrayed in a realistic manner, and this is continued right through
to the unexpected ending. The acting is superb, with the sort of unique chemistry
between the entire cast which is hard to find in many films. Ultimately this
could be perceived as a chick flick, but it is nothing like the standard sappy
nonsense one usually expects from such a film. Instead Tattoo, A Love Story
is a fine example of the sort of bold scriptwriting that independent films do
best. OH
