Billy is rich, beautiful and content. Her relationship with her father, who funds her lifestyle and her writing, is intimate and strong. When Billy makes a new friend, Maria, she finds the last piece of the puzzle to complete her perfect life. The best of friends to begin with, their passionate and fiery relationship begins to show signs of strain when Maria's total ownership of Billy is threatened by the first meal that Maria, Billy and her father share. Seeing their closeness, Maria grows jealous of Billy's relationship with her father and envies their intimacy. While Billy becomes troubled by memories of her mother's death, Maria and Billy's father find a way to satisfy the forbidden desires that each of them harbours for Billy. The intimacy between Billy and her father sometimes appears to push the boundaries of propriety, as does her relationship with Maria. These moments of crossover between filial/platonic love and lust, on the small details which elucidate a complex and contradictory emotion, are focused on relentlessly by Strauss focus. Small moments and naturalistic shooting are given space and time on screen, and the strong and involving performances by the three leads are enough to fill these spaces with emotion and potency. DV is the perfect choice to capture this, and the levels, varieties and different qualities of intimacy which are the crux of the film. BW Tatiana Strauss spent a number of years writing, directing and acting with her own theatre companies. This is her first feature. Tatiana is currently working on a new play as well as a screenplay for Guerrilla Films.
