It is the year 2002. In the film industry, like in many others, the power of the Unions has been halted. Young people, aspiring to break into the film industry, have to work voluntarily in order to gain experience. A group of twelve young and aspiring filmmakers gather at a warehouse in Tottenham on the first day of their shoot, with one target in mind: to get that crucial first shot in the can.

But is it really so simple? The rushes unfold a story through three independent but parallel sub-stories: 'The Action' is the trials and tribulations of the group on the first day and their frantic efforts to get the shot. 'Behind the Scenes' gossip and back stabbings during breaks is the second sub-story. 'The Interviews' with the twelve characters provide the other point of view (or the cutaway).

Shot on 35mm in fourteen days with a shooting budget of only £10,000, 12 characters, and an idea, Shootout was developed entirely through improvisation. The actors designed their characters, the crew developed all the lighting and framing just before shooting, and the script, story and authorship of the work are, therefore, credited to everyone that worked on the film. Originally an architecht pursuing film in his spare time, Maikl Hap created Archistudio Limited in 2001, through which he has written, produced and directed a number of short films and documentaries. With filmmaking now as his main focus, he is currently working on Oedipus King.
