Frustrated with their lowly positions in life Nathalie, an exotic dancer, and
Sandrine, a bartender at a dive joint, try to make a break for the top. After
they move in together Nathalie educates Sandrine in the ways of sexual transgression,
seduction and violent pleasures. Applying their hustling skills to high society
they snag jobs in the offices of a large bank and use their charms to climb
the corporate ladder. With subtle games of the mind and overt games of the body
they target and conquer key personnel by heartlessly throwing them into hopeless
states of infatuation. After a success with the company's second-in-command
the two set their sights on the head honcho's wealthy son, Christophe. Unbeknownst
to the two seductresses, Christophe has a game of his own. An experienced manipulator
himself, Christophe sees straight through Nathalie and Sandrine's ploy and uses
them for his own lewd and lustful agenda.
Dark, dramatic, and erotically charged, director Jean- Claude Brisseau strips
away the layers of construction that hide the mechanisms of power and social
status. Looking deep into the devious souls of women and men Secret Things unflinchingly
examines the heart of desire. DS
Jean-Claude Brisseau made his professional debut with a film for TV. He went
on to work for the Institut Nationale de l'Audiovisuel. His features include
Les Savates du bon Dieu (2000), L'Ange Noir, (1994), and De Bruit et de Fureur(1988),
which notoriously concentrate on themes of violence, morality, mysticism, and
the irrational.
