PULLOUT preceeded by FISH AND CHIPS

THURSDAY 6 NOVEMBER AT 6:35PM UGC SHAFTESBURY AVE SCREEN 2
Country USA Running Time 69 mins Format DigiBeta Director/S'play Jyllian Gunther Prod Wren Arthur DoP Ben Wolf Print Source Wonderful 6 Inc E contact@thepulloutmovie.com

Jyllian Gunther wanted to find out why all her relationships had ended. Her postmortems of major relationships shines light on her love for her father, her mourning for her mother, and her hopes for the future.

The entire process from searching for exes, getting them to meet with her, and the process of filming them, is commented on not only by Gunther, but her father, whose opinions of her exes inform the film. From John (the 'Bad Boyfriend') to dependable George, all reflect her developing personality, her need to rebel, for excitement, or for security.

Gunther's film uses the exes to peel back layers of her own life, rediscovering the people who helped her become what she is today. She appears surprised at the degree to which her boyfriends have changed, and her need for contact spills over as intimacy with George edges into the bedroom.

This is a nostalgia of suffering, a recapitulation of mistakes that Gunther has made - in her own behaviour and her na vety. She gains a realisation that one person cannot give her everything, and that breaking up is sometimes a way of putting off growing up. Look out for her first love's transformation into tattooed Lord Relentless Ha. NS

Jyllian Gunther won an Emmy for her work as co-writer and Director on Maryland Public Television in 2002. Having worked in film, theatre and television, she has made shorts which have played at the AFI, Film Fest DC, and worked at Nickelodeon on shorts and series such as See Jane Go. Pullout is her first feature.
