Marion is a hot-headed, free-spirited woman, carefree and uncompromising, as if the teenager in her had not quite disappeared. At her godson's birthday, she meets Cl»ment, a captivating, provocative 12-year-old boy, then turmoil sets in, followed by desire and suddenly love. This feature debut, written and directed by Emmanuelle Bercot, gives this taboo subject a surprising normality. The film was shown in the Un Certain Regard series at Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Young Cinema Award. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director.

Director Emmanuelle Bercot made such a strong impression with her medium-length film that La Puce was released commercially in France. La Puce is a non-judgmental look at a teenager losing her virginity to a much older man. Occurring for a large part in real time, the film brilliantly captures the feints, digressions and manoeuvres of the pair as they each stake their claims to emotional and physical territory. Bercot's direction of the actors, especially the young Isild Le Besco, is nothing short of remarkable. JP
