This taut feature debut will certainly give director and cowriter, Thomas Trail a career boost. Set in LA, we discover shoplifter extraordinaire Emily (Meredith Bishop) stashing pocketfuls of goods in the trunk of her car. She simply can't stop stealing. When she is rumbled by Nick (Jsu Garcia) the 'loss prevention specialist', he lets her get away, intrigued by her boldness and daring. The predictable love affair between hunter and hunted starts to unfold, except for the unexpected arrival of Emily's mother (Leigh Taylor). It turns out Mom has got her own little shopping spree going, but on plastic, and has a backlog of purchases with a six figure price tag. Meanwhile, Nick is behind in his alimony, he can't see his little girl, he gets stung on a drug deal gone sour, and desperately needs some quick cash to save his neck. The final scene has a triple twist that leaves Nick (and us) dangling.

Expertly shot by Peter Rieveschl, with convincing, charismatic performances and tightly edited by Trail, this film has everything you could want from an independent feature. Trail and Gross's script stays to the story and veers well clear of any preaching or messages about consumerism. It remains to be seen whether this film will 'make' it. Whatever happens, it certainly deserves to be discovered. EG

Born in Argentina, Thomas Trail now lives in LA. As a music video director, he regularly achieves topten rotation on MTV for work his for DJ Keoki. He is also featured on Channel 4's Mixmasters, and his work as a photographer is seen on album covers and in fashion magazines.
