In How Do You Know My Daughter? one inmate enjoys a private dramatic coaching
session in a Nottinghamshire prison while a group of friends in London (inmates,
ex-offenders and professional actors) meet to discuss a common bond formed through
the presentation of a play within a London correctional centre's chapel. This
is one of the inaugural Dreaming Will films, a joint venture between the London
Shakespeare Workout Prison Project and Prisons Video Magazine, which offers
inmates the chance to learn the 'applied literacie'.
In The Guv'nor Alan Mortlock is a born-again Christian who organises unlicensed
boxing fights. He fell into a life of petty crime at an early age which progressed
rapidly on to far more violent activities. In 1990 Mortlock reached his lowest
ebb, with a failing marriage and no money surrounded by violence and crime.
It was at this time that he saw a god-like figure which led him towards the
church. Leaving a life of crime behind, he embarked on a career as a boxing
promoter, and started the Independent Boxing Association to get kids off the
street. The film follows Alan from training sessions to church and ultimately
to fight-night.
