EDEN & POLISH ANIMATED SHORTS

FRIDAY 31 OCTOBER AT MIDDAY UGCHAYMARKET SCREEN 3

The atmospheric, Oscar-nominated fantasy Cathedral and the edgy Undo demonstrate that new technologies have as much to offer as hand-drawn techniques. Use of black and white graphics in To the Light and Spring seem to evoke melancholy, which emphasises the potential that lies in the simplicity of lines and shadows. Milenka proves the opposite: a Ukrainian song provides a base for a girl's delusion about a man she planted in a pot. Irretrievable Time is a love story staged in the ruins of the Jewish cemeteries of oldtown Krakow - it is an intimate recollection of the past. Eden is an ironic tale of a journey through time and space, featuring casual meetings with Prometheus, Columbus, Salvador Dali, Charlie Parker, Robinson Crusoe, The Beatles and God. Eden took six years to complete by hand. MB
