DILLO CON PAROLE MIE [SAY IT IN MY WORDS]

WEDNESDAY 29 OCTOBER AT 7PM UGC SHAFTESBURY AVE SCREEN 2

Country Italy Running Time 97 mins Format 35mm Dir Daniele Luchetti Prod Conchita Airoldi S'play Ivan Cotroneo, Daniele Luchetti, Stefania Montorsi DoP Paolo Carnera Cast Stefania Montorsi, Giampaolo Morelli, Martina Merlino, Marco Piras, Alberto Cucca Print Source StudioCanal Urania E urania.film@flashnet.it

Permanently-dieting Stefania (Stefania Montersi) is bored with her boyfriend of eight years, Andrea (Giampaolo Morelli). Their shared interests seem to be vanishing, and they don't make love like they used to do. Meanwhile a 15-year-old cousin Meghy (Martina Merlino) comes into Stephanie's life. She is a disillusioned young virgin who has sneaked away on holiday to the Cyclades, the islands of love, in search of 'the one', and thinks she's found him when she meets the handsome Andrea, whom she does her best to seduce, armed with a family-sized pack of condoms and clothes two sizes too small for her.

Woody Allen-style monologues on the nature of relationships (from characters who are the kind of people who fold their clothes before making love) are combined with Shakespearean-style comedy of mistaken identity and misunderstandings in the young people's party capital of the Mediterranean. But can true love surpass all the obstacles and survive? Especially worthy of note is the Bollywood-style final scene which makes you want to crawl under your seat and hide - this kind of 'discomfort comedy' is utilised to brilliant effect throughout. AK

Daniele Luchetti made his directorial feature debut in 1988 with Domani Accadra. He has directed commercials and worked as a First AD to Nanni Moretti. He Other work includes La Settimana Della Sfinge (1989), Portaborse (in competition at Cannes, 1993), Arriva la Bufera (1993), La Scuola (1995) and Piccoli Maestri (1998).
