All-American Boy is a coming-of-age tale set in America of the 1960s. Jim Green,
9, worships his soldier father and dreams of following in his footsteps by going
to a military academy. He is proud that his father is one of the first to fight
in Vietnam.
But as Jim becomes a teenager, he sees his happy military world begin to crumble.
His older brother leaves home and his parents start to fight. Sent to prep school,
Jim gets into fights with other students and is ostracised. His only saving
graces are a black student who befriends him and an English teacher who inspires
him to be the hero of his own life. In the spring of 1970, Jim learns he has
won admittance to the academy, but his excitement is short-lived when he finds
out his father has orders to go back to Vietnam. Now Jim is confronted by a
great personal decision. And with it will come a deep conflict with his father
that will change his family and his nation for all time.
All American Boy was awarded the Gold Special Jury Award for Best Dramatic
Film at the Houston International Film Festival and was nominated for best picture
at the Hollywood Film Festival. EG
