Ed and Ben of Straight8 introduce some of the best entries to their 2005 events. Not only do Straight8 filmmakers write, produce and direct their films, they edit and achieve any effects in camera before handing their exposed but unprocessed Super8 cartridge back to Ed and Ben along with an original soundtrack on a CD. The first time they see their film is at one of Straight8’s screenings, which range from swanky events in Cannes to offbeat screenings in Hackney churches. Now in its sixth year, Straight8 attracts entries from all over the world resulting in an amazing array of entertaining, innovative, brave and damn good ‘no frills’ filmmaking.
