Born in Caracas, Venezuela, 26 year old Jonathan Jakubowicz wrote and directed our closing night film Secuestro Express
The film has been a huge success back in Venezuela, knocking many of the summer blockbusters off the top of the box office, but it has deeply upset the Chavista government there. As a result they have tried to ban the film and have taken Jonathan to court, and such is the political tension surrounding the film that Jonathan is currently residing in the US.
Regardless of such controversy, such is the talent of this debut filmmaker that we are proud to have invited him to the festival. Following a sneak preview of the film, Jonathan will be interviewed on stage before an open Q&A session.
