Released from a mental asylum after 12 years, Dana (Lydia Leonard) returns to her friends on the outside world, haunted by images of a disturbing past yet convinced she was never insane. As she begins to piece together the events that resulted in her detainment, she is thrust into a dark world of deception and twisted loyalties, where seemingly innocent social games quickly spiral into scenes of brutal violence.
At the heart of Dana’s new outside life are her former friends, the one-dimensional Paige and venomous Natalie (Sin City’s Jaime King, in a particularly icy performance). The girls reintroduce her to the pleasures of the outside world. In spite of this, they seem far more concerned with the continued noxious antics of the group than Dana’s wellbeing. While maintaining a close bond, they remain potential gatekeepers of the answers she seeks.
Concerned for her mental wellbeing is her charismatic former doctor Anthony (Jason Durr), who must face his own personal torment in maintaining their strictly professional relationship.
Eric Styles’ sexually-charged thriller offers an insight into the consequences of deadly games and harboured secrets - shot through with surreal flashbacks and dream sequences that question the nature of Dana’s psyche and the truth about the girls’ pasts. Building to an indisputably gripping climax, True,True Lie presents a simultaneously sensual and thrilling cinematic experience. JM
