FOURTEENTH RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

THE WIND [El Viento]

SUNDAY 1 OCTOBER AT 3:30PM

Country Spain/Argentina Running Time 100 mins Format 35mm Director Eduardo Mignogna Screenplay Graciela Maglie, Eduardo Mignogna Producer Christian Blanco DoP Marcelo Camarino Cast Federico Luppi, Antonella Costa Print Source Sogepaq E sogepaqaqint@sogecable.com W www.sogecine-sogepaq.com

When cattle farmer Frank Osario buries his daughter, the ever present desert winds seem to howl across the plains in empathy. Frank leaves his home and faithful canine companion to travel to Buenos Aires where he breaks the sad news to his granddaughter, Alina, a doctor. She provides a cold welcome as she harbours a bitter resentment towards both Frank and her dead mother for refusing to disclose a long held family secret concerning the identity of Alina’s father. Frank’s endless stream of rural anecdotes and botched attempts at DIY do little to improve their relationship, nor does Frank’s interest in the complexities of Alina’s love life help matters. Alina tries to come to terms with her bereavement and the truth about her past, especially when her grandfather reveals that the Osario family closet contains far more skeletons than she ever imagined.
The Wind is a compelling tale of grief and redemption, with an excellent performance of towering nobility from Federcio Luppi. He portrays Frank as a proud, stoic man unable to express the hurt that no doubt lies within his soul. Director Eduardo Mignogna effectively illustrates the disparity between the relaxed but polite attitude to life of the Patagonian countryside represented by Frank (anyone who saw Bombon El Pero will already have some idea) and the cold-hearted, potentially dangerous nature of the metropolis.
