The Taming of The Shrew is a fresh interpretation of Bard's timeless tale of love, seduction, marriage and family affairs. This version sees Charged Films once again taking a classic play and rendering it in the form of classical ballet.
Baptista Minola, a wealthy gentleman of Padua, has two daughters to wed. The younger, gentler of the two has no lack of suitors, but their father decides not to allow her to marry until she is older. More rebellious daughter Katherine is spoken for first. Enter Petruchio, in search of a wealthy wife for her dowry, he is not afraid to dedicate himself to the task or shy away from a plethora of seemingly cruel psychological games deemed necessary to reach his goal. What follows is Petruchio's wooing and taming of Katherine, communicated through ballet to hilarious effect.
Director Kojic-Bogdanovic has chosen the playful music of Giocchino Rossini to guide us through this riotous comedy. Performances by Belgrade's Dance Company Singidunum are engaging and accomplished. DB
