FOURTEENTH RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

REALLY

SUNDAY 1 OCTOBER AT 9:30PM

Country UK Running Time 81 mins Format DigiBeta
Director/ Screenplay/ Producer Daniel Mitelpunkt DoP Nicolas Desaintquentin
Cast Kirsty Bushall, Philip Arditti, Mark Doyle, Nicky Wardley, Joanne Henry, Wendy Hubbard
Website: www.dayfornightfilms.com

Eleanor (Kirsty Bushall) wants to change her life - and to do so on camera, in the hope that this will provide a much-needed motivational spur.
With a relentless film crew tailing her and plenty of advice from the wrong people, she has no hope of success. Friend “Duckie” or Douglas (Mark Doyle) is surely her soul-mate, but the prospects of either recognising this are slim indeed. Highly-strung Izzy (Philip Arditti) will prove an unavoidable distraction. He’s a romantic at heart but has a disconcertingly frank manner which makes him awkward company. A strange but compelling little love triangle develops.
Eleanor’s life change is slow to occur, to the increasing frustration of the unseen director. It’s pretty clear her “life coach” isn’t going to help. Of course, it’s the people closest to her who know her best; her flatmate then her mother’s straight-to-camera pieces are thrillingly blunt – they steal the show.
Daniel Mitelpunkt’s decade of experience as a news and features cameraman is evident in this perfectly-nuanced mockumentary. His cast give captivating performances, in which scripted and improvised elements combine with all the subtlety and pathos that’s lacking from Bridget Jones-style dramas. Thirty-something singletons really can make good viewing. LL
