FOURTEENTH RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

FAT GIRLS

SATURDAY 30 SEPTEMBER AT 1:45PM

Country USA Running Time 82 mins Format  DV Director/ Screenplay Ash Christian Director of Photography Vincent Wrenn Producers Ash Christian, Kim Fishman, Kelli Lerner Cast Ash Christian, Jonathan Caouette, Ashley Fink Print Source Kim Fishman Website www.fatgirlsmovie.com

Rodney (Ash Christian) lives in a small Texas town in the middle of nowhere where most people have little time for Broadway dreams or alternative lifestyles. This presents a problem to Rodney as all he really wants is a boyfriend and to live his dreams in New York City on stage. Having two mothers and weighing nearly three hundred pounds, Rodney’s only friend Sabrina (Ashley Fink) is also struggling with this small town mentality. Sabrina, being the more grounded one, encourages Rodney to embrace his inner “fat girl,” the ousted and alienated person that lives in us all, and to rise above the small town. Rodney begins to see that life can exist outside Texas when he befriends Mr. Seymour Cox (Jonathan Caouette), the school's drama coach, who had similar dreams and was able to break away.
Twenty-year old Ash Christian, who wrote, produced, directed, and stars in this quirky feature debut, brilliantly captures the feeling of being a lost high school kid desperate for a life bigger than the town they’re trapped in. This film will remind some of John Waters in his glory days but maintains its own unique style. The characters are great; especially Mr. Cox played by Tarnation director Jonathan Caouette, who proves here that he is truly a great talent. We should expect many great things from Christian in the near future. He’s definitely someone to look out for.   JV
