Debut director Suzanne Giel
gud begins by capturing the moment her husband, rising UK choreographer Piers takes the phone call from Oliver Stone telling him he’s just got the job of putting together the dance sequence for the film, Alexander. From there on Piers begins a dream collaboration not only with Stone but also composer Vangelis on what will turn out to be some of the most exciting dance sequences ever seen on screen. The film also follows the audition process with dancer Francisco Bosch of the English National Ballet performing an improvisational dance piece that so impresses Stone he gets handed the job on the spot.
We also sit in on rehearsals with actress Rosario Dawson and other leading dancers from the UK dance scene. An intimate interview with Oliver Stone will go some way to dispel the mystique of someone who’s often seen as difficult and unapproachable.
He himself gives this rousing endorsement of the film -'I enjoyed Dancing For Oliver.'I think it should appeal to people interested in dance, music videos, Alexander fans, the filmmaking process itself and of course, gay audiences with its Bagoas focus and Francisco as such great eye-candy. Overall, it's good fun.' SB
