FOURTEENTH RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

NOT A PHOTOGRAPH: MISSION OF BURMA

WEDNESDAY 4 OCTOBER AT 4PM

Country USA Running Time 72 mins Format DV
Director David Keiler Jr, Jeff  Iwanick Producer Kirsten Agrell DoP Albert Maysles Print Source Element Productions W www.elementproductions.com

Not A Photograph recounts the reunification of the late 1970s band The Mission Of Burma twenty years after they started the band, with tracks such as That’s When I Reach For My Revolver. This post-punk Boston group comprises guitarist Roger Miller, bassist Pete Prescot and Bob Weston and their original aim that was to enlarge the scope of Punk’s reach, whilst remaining loyal to its rebellious spirit. The unconventional name of the band was chosen for its ‘murky and disturbing quality’. Despite a large fan base, the band were notorious for their somewhat unconventional live performances, that were reputed for being hit or miss. The experimental nature of the group meant that their shows would either offer spectacular sound or straight-out incomprehensible noise.
The doc narrates their initial success, showing original footage of some of their earlier gigs such as one that was performed in 1979 at My Space in Boston. It brings us up to date with their motivations for releasing the album On Off On in 2003, after years of musical inactivity.   TW
