FOURTEENTH RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

LEONARD COHEN: I’M YOUR MAN

THURSDAY 28 DECEMBER AT 7:30PM

Country USA RT 105 mins Format DV Dir. Lian Lunson
Producers Lian Lunson, Mel Gibson DoP Geoff Hall (Sydney) Lian Lunson, Brit Marling, John Pirozzi (New York) Featuring Leonard Cohen, Bono,The Edge Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Antony Hegarty, Beth Orton, Jarvis Cocker, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Nick Cave.

There are few singer/songwriters around that possess either the career
longevity or influence of Leonard Cohen. His is a career that spans several
decades and he can lay claim to an illustrious fan-base that
includes a virtual whose who in the music industry.
The film centres around live footage of a Sydney tribute concert. Featured
performers include  Rufus and Martha Wainwright, rockers Nick Cave and Bono and artists who seem to defy classification like Antony Hegarty who in my opinion delivers a highlight of the concert - an unforgettable rendition of IF IT BE THY WILL.
Interspersed between the different acts is a lengthy interview with Leonard himself by director Lian Lunson. Aspiring lyricists everywhere will be relieved to learn that Cohen doesn't just churn out the hits - he readily admits to agonising over every word and taking up to a year to polish the words of a single song. In addition, when discussing a foreword he has written to one of his books recently translated into Japanese, he reveals himself to be a man of wry humility, with a self-deprecating wit that is unexpected in someone so influential.
You'll have to wait til the very end of the film however for its highlight,
when the man himself takes centre stage. Cause there's no one who does Leonard Cohen better than the man himself, proving that he definitely can - be your man. SB
